Pasco County offers many environmental and hazardous waste programs for homeowners and businesses. Some of these programs have been ongoing for years and others are developed as new environmental issues come to light. All programs are oriented towards achieving one major goal: to protect human health and our environment. Several of these programs target human health and the environment directly while others reach this same goal indirectly.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center Locations are available to Pasco County residents, no commercial waste is accepted. Please visit our Business SOG Program page if you have commercial waste.

Sharps Exchange Program
The Pasco County Sharps Exchange Program provides residents with a way to safely dispose of their needles, syringes, tubes and lancets for no charge while also receiving a new sharps container for free.
Improper disposal of sharps can lead to them entering the sanitary sewer, waterways, our environment or solid waste stream which endangers the safety and health of our citizens and sanitation workers.
How it Works
- Participants can visit one of the six (6) sponsoring facilities found on the list below to obtain a red sharps container through one of the participating locations.
- Take the new container to your home and place it out of reach of children.
- Perform your injections as needed and then dispose of the syringes completely intact into the sharps container.
- When full, seal the container and exchange it a participating location.
- If you do not have a red Sharps container, check with your local pharmacy or physician's office.
Sharps are not accepted at any of the Pasco County Health Department locations or any Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers.
All Hospital Information Desk and/or Concierge Desk, located at main entrances, can provide details of that Hospital Sharp Program.

Unwanted Prescription Medication
Expired or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications should never be disposed of by flushing them down the toilet or drain. Although this method of disposal prevents accidental ingestion, it can cause contamination to Florida's aquatic environment because wastewater treatment systems are not designed to remove many of these medications.
Over-the-counter medications can be disposed of with your residential trash.
In conjunction with the Pasco County Sheriff's Department, New Port Richey Police Department, Dade City Police Department, Pasco Detention Facility, and Pasco County ASAP you can safely dispose of unused/unwanted prescription medication in secure drop boxes. Liquid medication is not accepted.
For recommended disposal methods and sites to drop off unwanted medications, please download our Medication Disposal and Inventory Chart (PDF).
For additional information on medication disposal, please visit the Pasco ASAP Website.
