Earth Day has been celebrated every year in Pasco County on the fourth Saturday of April at Crews Lake Park, in Shady Hills, Florida. This event has been a collaboration between, Pasco County Public Works, Keep Pasco Beautiful, Covanta Pasco, Pasco County Environmental Compliance, Pasco County Recycling and Education Department, Pasco County Parks and Recreation, and the Pasco County School Board.
The 50th Anniversary for Earth Day was held as a virtual event on April 22nd due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The yearly celebration continued though with a virtual photo contest. Its purpose was to promote waste reduction utilizing the hash tag #reducebyreuse. Winners were chosen by popular vote and Lowe’s gift cards were awarded to the winners. There were 26 photo submissions, 2,789 votes, and 9,044 views of the photo gallery. The winning photo was a former toilet tank decorated with mosaics, and turned into a planter.
