The Department of Public Works collects data on the many activities for which the Operations Division is responsible. For roadway maintenance and similar activities in the county’s maintained road right-of-way, this data includes:
It is important to note that the road maintenance activities listed above are funded under the county’s Program Maintenance Budget. However, this budget is not the funding source for roadway maintenance of all roads. This budget is used only for the large network roads classified as collector/arterial roads. County maintained local roads are funded through the gas tax which is allocated to the Public Works Operations Budget.
Road maintenance does NOT include paving. Residential roads are paved through the county’s Paving Assessment (PVAS) Program which is administered under the Public Works Department’s Pavement Management Division. Additionally, main roads are also paved from the county’s Program Maintenance Budget. The county’s 801 lane miles of collector and arterial roads are paved through the Program Maintenance Budget.
