Some of these programs have been ongoing for years and others are developed as new environmental issues come to light.

All programs are oriented towards achieving one major goal, to protect human health and our environment. Several of these programs target human health and the environment directly while others reach this same goal indirectly. Pasco County invests lots of time and energy educating our county residents, young and not so young alike through the school system for youngsters and through workshops, associations and civic clubs for our adult population. The County provides speakers to lecture on variety of subjects and can accommodate residents interested in touring some of our facilities. County staff participates in numerous public events including Earth Day, The County Fair, Coastal Cleanup, Health and Safety Expos, planned Amnesty Days, Risk Management meetings, and other public activities.

Many of our environmental and hazwaste management programs are exclusively for households. These programs provide householders with the means to manage and properly dispose of unwanted chemicals and materials so that our environment is protected. These programs are offered to any household in Pasco County who wishes to participate.

Businesses, on the other hand, are regulated in most part and thus they are governed by rules and regulations of which households are generally exempted. Compliance with Federal, State, and County rules and regulations costs money; however, this is part of doing business. Business owners must also work towards the ultimate goal of environmental safety. This by no means is limited to Pasco County, but it is rather a nationwide protocol that we all must enforce. We, as a county staff, have been able to reduce this cost to business owners by providing them with proper information, tips, workshops, conducting site audits, and working in a partnership to comply with regulations and thereby saving money in the process. As a matter of fact we have some outstanding business owners in Pasco County that have received recognition awards under the Small Quantity Generator program for their achievement in environmental protection at their shops.

If you have any questions or need additional information regarding one or more of the programs, brochures, data, fliers, or facility visits, please call the staff of the Utilities Fiscal Services / Special Projects Department at (727) 847-8041.
