Florida Women’s Hall of Fame 2018 Nominations
November 1 - January 31, 2018

The Florida Women’s Hall of Fame is located on the Plaza Level in the rotunda of the Florida Capitol building where a bronze plaque with an image and biographical summary of each member of the Women’s Hall of Fame hangs in tribute.
The Commission will accept all nominations for the 2018 Florida Women’s Hall of Fame postmarked by January 31, 2018. The Commission will recommend, to the Governor of Florida, ten outstanding women from whom up to three will be chosen for induction. Inductees will be recognized at a special ceremony in September 2018.

The Florida Commission Announces 2018 Essay Contest

The Florida Commission on the Status of Women is seeking entries for the 2018 Women’s History Essay Contest from students in grades 6-8. The Commission invites students to participate in order to gain a more relevant appreciation of women’s roles in history. Winning essayists will be awarded prizes and recognized at a special ceremony at the 5th Annual Florida Legislative Education Summit at the Capitol in Tallahassee in February 2018. The deadline for entry is
            January 12, 2018.

Purpose:Commission on the Status of Women
The Commission on Status of Women (“CSW”) was established by the Board of County Commissioners on September 13, 2016 for the purpose of serving in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners, the County Administrator, the community and all agencies and persons in Pasco County with respect to all matters pertaining to the status of women including but not limited to discrimination against women, employment of women, education of women, establishment of day care centers in the community and attitudes towards women in the community.  The CSW shall make periodic reports and recommendations to these bodies with respect to such matters.

The CSW is composed of a total of fifteen (15) members.  Ten members shall be nominees from the following organizations:
 African American Club of Pasco County, Inc.
 Hispanic Professional Women’s Association, Inc.
 Metropolitan Ministries
 Pasco Economic Development Council
 Pasco-Hernando State College
 Premier Community Healthcare Group, Inc.
 Saint Leo University
 Sunrise of Pasco County, Inc.
 United Way of Pasco County, Inc.
 Women Lawyers of Pasco, Inc.

In addition, each Commissioner shall appoint one (1) member to the Commission.  Members of the CSW shall be permanent residents of Pasco County and shall not serve for more than eight (8) consecutive years.

Membership on the CSW shall be for a term of three (3) years.

The Commission on the Status of Women meets on the first Monday of every month at 1:30pm in the Cottee Training Room, first floor,  at the Pasco County Utilities Building located at 19420 Central Boulevard, Land O’ Lakes, FL 34637.

During a public meeting of the Commission, members of the public will be allowed to address the Commission and speak for up to three minutes.
