Contracted Ditch Channel Maintenance
Maple Pond Before Maintenanc
Maple Pond Before Maintenance
Maintenance of County-owned drainage flow-ways, ditches and canals that convey stormwater runoff helps protect public safety and reduce flooding for County citizens. Ownership is sometimes through easements dedicated to the County although some may be by a fee simple deed.  Many of these contracts are supervised by staff in the Stormwater Management Division. Major drainage flow-way and ditch/canal maintenance is contracted to independent firms. This activity helps upstream communities by helping moving floodwaters to downstream receiving areas. Contractors are selected through a rigorous competitive bidding process.

Maple Pond After Maintenance
The image at right shows the same "Maple Pond", post-maintenance with sodded slopes. This maintenance assures unrestricted flow-through the ditch/canal as intended in the original design. The Stormwater Utility Fee covers this maintenance program by helping to minimize flooding in in our communities and reduces flooding of adjacent development. Observe the erosion and sediment control silt fencing along the pond/swale.
