Watershed Meetings Follow-Up
Many watersheds in Pasco County were impacted by the 2015 July/August floods. In response to the flooding, the county held several public watershed meetings to help citizens with emergency housing assistance, flooding relief and other assistance. At these meetings the county asked citizens for feedback on drainage issues that they were having during this time period.

Comment Card Update
During the watershed meetings, some ci
tizens filled out “comment cards” regarding drainage issues in their neighborhood, while others were interested in the overall drainage problems in the larger watershed.  The comment cards were carefully archived and put into our citizens inquiry cataloging and documentation system (GovQA), then assigned to specific staff for follow-up investigations. To date, each investigation has involved research, telephone discussions and field meetings with citizens, either individually or in groups. The comment card investigations are nearly complete and many questions on the cards have been answered. Where pumping could help with immediate flooding relief, county staff has provided help, and drainage flow-way blockages in ditches due primarily to vegetation overgrowth, and pipes have been looked into and maintenance has either been performed or scheduled. When appropriate, a few inquiries have been referred to other regulatory agencies such as the Southwest Florida Water Management District for follow-up.

Watershed Task Force Meetings

Following the watershed meetings, the county initiated a mass mailing of letters to those citizens who provided contact information during each meeting. The letters included prepaid postcards for citizens' use to indicate their willingness to participate in future Watershed Task Force Meetings, starting in 2016. These follow-up Task Force Meetings will be held with smaller groups of citizens
