Tourism Plan

On September 5, 1990, the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) established Pasco County's Tourist Development Council (TDC) and began levying a 2% tourist development tax on short term accommodations in the County. Since then the TDC pursued partners and stakeholders throughout the County in order to promote Pasco as a visitor destination.

One of the key partnerships is with the Florida Sports Foundation - the official sports promoter and development organization for the State. On April 25, 2007, the BCC appointed itself as the Pasco County Sports Commission (PCSC). In the years that has followed the BCC adopted the 2010-14 Tourist Development Plan. In the fall of 2013, the TDC and the BCC updated and ammended the Tourist Development Plan. Here is the updated version 2013-16 Tourist Development Plan.

To become the premier sports and travel destination in Florida.
Pasco's focus is to create a tourist experience.

The following goals, in order of priority, will implement the plan’s vision and mission.

  1. Attract amateur and professional sports events and recreational activities and construction of multi-sports facilities.
  2. Enhance the marketing efforts of the County utilizing all mediums.
  3. Enhance tourism appeal and attractions by sustaining, improving and building the identity through signage, thereby promoting ecotourism.
  4. Establish and maintain partnerships among our stakeholders to promote a positive economic impact and measure results.
  5. Create a reserve to accommodate changes in the economic travel climate.
