DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS:
On April 23, 2002, the Board authorized staff to do a presentation to introduce an amendment of Ordinance Nos. 79-28 and 01-012, as subsequently amended, to allow the expansion of the Municipal Fire Service Unit (MFSU) boundaries to include the area currently serviced by Magnolia Valley Volunteer Firemen, Inc.
On May 7, 2002, the Board approved the introduction for the amendment of Ordinance Nos. 79-28 and 01-012, as subsequently amended, to allow the expansion of MFSU boundaries to include the area currently serviced by Magnolia Valley Volunteer Firemen, Inc.
Please find attached for your consideration the proposed amendment to MFSU Ordinance Nos. 79-28 and 01-012, as subsequently amended. This ordinance would amend the current MFSU ordinance to include that area currently being protected by Magnolia Valley Volunteer Firemen, Inc., according to the map and legal description as described in Exhibit A (legal description with map).
The proposed ordinance has undergone extensive County staff review and has been requested by Magnolia Valley Volunteer Firemen, Inc., members and its Board of Directors to provide fire protection services to this area.
ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS:
The Board is requested to consider the following alternatives:
1. Accept the attached proposed amendment to MFSU Ordinance Nos. 79-28 and 01-012, as subsequently amended, to allow the expansion of MFSU boundaries to include that area presently protected by Magnolia Valley Volunteer Firemen, Inc.
2. Do not accept the proposed amendment to MFSU Ordinance Nos. 79-28 and 01-012, as subsequently amended, which could result in Magnolia Valley Volunteer Firemen, Inc. members continuing to provide fire protection coverage.
RECOMMENDATION AND FUNDING:
The Emergency Services Department recommends that the Board accept the attached proposed amendment to MFSU Ordinance Nos. 79-28 and 01-012, as subsequently amended, listen to public comment, and continue the public hearing until a final public hearing on this amendment scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at 6:30 p.m., at the Historic Pasco County Courthouse in Dade City.
