Emergency Assistance

Animal-related emergencies that occur outside of normal business hours are addressed by a stand-by animal control officer.  Stand-by shift starts at 4PM and ends the following day at 8AM. One animal control officer is on call to provide service to the entire county and will only respond to calls meeting criteria as an emergency.

Emergency Criteria

  • Animals that have bitten a person and are still running loose
  • Seriously injured stray domestic animals, i.e. animals in imminent danger of dying. This includes animals that have been hit by a car or have a large, open wound. Emergency care is for domestic stray animals only. Owned injured animals are the responsibility of their owner or caretaker
  • Unconfined, aggressive animals that are posing an immediate threat to public health and safety
